John J. Degenhardt, 85, 404 E. 17th, died Saturday at St. Anthony Hospital. He was a retired farmer from the Pfeifer community.

Surviving are his wife, Emma, of the home, six sons: Sylvester, Victor, John, Adolph and Dale, all of Hays; Walter, Great Bend; two daughters: Mrs. Clarence Basgall and Mrs. John Bieker, both of Hays; four brothers: Andrew, Brighton, Colo.; Casper, Pfeifer; George, La Crosse; Bill, Wichita; six sisters: Mrs. Eva Pfannenstiel, Mrs. Rosa Pfannenstiel, Mrs. Clara Hartman, Mrs. Emma Zimmerman and Mrs. Isador Schmidt, all of Hays; Mrs. Lena Befort, Salina; 33 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with burial in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Pfeifer. There will be a parish wake service at 8 p.m. Monday at Brock’s North Hill Chapel. Friends may call at the chapel until service time.
