Hays -- Victor Degenhardt, 77, died Monday, May 1, at Hays Medical Center, St. Anthony Campus, Hays. He was born Aug. 5, 1917 at Pfeifer, the son of John and Emma Basgall Degenhardt.

He was a retired Bulk Plant foreman for Haliburton, former owner of G. E. Laudromat and was a former caretaker for St. Joseph Cemetery, all of Hays. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays.

On April 19, 1937, he married Bernadine Munk at Pfeifer. She survives.

Other survivors include four sons, Dennis and Bob, both of Wichita, Bill, Hill City, and Jerry, Hays; a daughter, Joyce Mosher, Denver, Colo.; four brothers, Sylvester, Adolph, Dale and John, all of Hays; two sisters, Regina Basgall, Hays, and Alvina Bieker, Atwood; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Waler.

Parish vigil will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays, with Father Don Zimmerman presiding. Friends may call until 9 p.m. today, and 8:30 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays. Memorials may be sent to the church, in care of the funeral home.
