Valentine "Nick" Degenhart, 90, of Fort Collins, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at a local nursing home. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. today at Bohlender Chapel. Deacon Warren Lybarger will officiate. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Father Phil Meredith will officiate. Interment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Nick Degenhart was born Dec. 1, 1908, in Germany (sic) to John Degenhart and Eva Hergenrater Degenhart.

He married Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Frank on Jan. 29, 1935, in Sterling.

Mr. Degenhart moved to Fort Collins in 1966 from Sterling. He worked for Safeway for 40 years as a meat cutter and deli manager. Mr. Degenhart was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Lions Club, and Holy Name Society. He was very active in church ushering and taking communion to shut-ins. He was also volunteer fire department chief in Yuma.

Survivors include his wife, Betty one son, Lynn Degenhart of Albuquerque, N.M. five daughters, Marlene Damm of Yuma, Joyce Stenson of Red Feather Lakes, Nita Kanan of Mesquite, Nev., Carolyn Elge of Aurora, Neb., and Phyllis Clark of Kingwood, Texas three sisters, Betty Spahn of Denver, Mary Heilman of Wapato, Wash., Annie Stoltz of Henderson, Nev. nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
