Born in Plainfield, he lived there all his life before moving to South Plainfield 13 years ago.
He served as a detective in the police department for 26 years before retiring in 1956. For the past 24 years, he worked the security division of Revlon, Inc. of Edison.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Plainfield and a member of its Holy Name Society and Usher Squad. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Watchung Council 552 of Plainfield, and was a former President and silver-life member of the Police Benevolent Association Local 19 of Plainfield.
He was very active in the Holy Cross basketball, football and baseball teams in th Plainfield area in the 1920's.
Mr. Wilson was a World War I veteran with the Merchant Marine and served with the Plainfield National Guard for seven years.
His wife, Margaret Barry Wilson died in 1973. Surviving are three beloved sons, Leo J of Plainfield, Francis J. of Alexandria, VA., and James P. Paul of Pittsfield, Mass.; and two daughters, Margaret Pozzelanti of Bricktown, and Patricia Hodgson of Forked River; a sister, Mary F. Wilson of Plainfield, 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are by Higgins Home for Funerals, at 209 West 8th Street, Plainfield. Services will be on Wednesday, May 21st. at 8:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, Plainfield, at 9 a.m.. Interment at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield. Visiting hours are Monday and Tuesday, 1-4 and 7-9 p.m.
