Hays - Victor Pfannenstiel, 85, died Oct. 20 2001, at his home in Hays. He was born June 29 1916, at Munjor, the son of Mike and Eva Degenhardt Pfannenstiel.

He was a mechanic for O'Loughlin's Chevrolet for 45 years. He belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, of which he was past president and a past state president. He was volunteer fireman at Hays for 25 years.

On Feb. 24, 1938 he married Cecilia Younger at Hays. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Don, Hutchinson, and Kenneth, Denver; two daughters, Ila Mae Ruder, Hays, and Carol Sue Lillie, Washington, Kan.; three brothers, Julie Billings, Mont., and Frank and Marvin, both of Hays; three sisters, Marcella Eickbush, Laramie, Wyo., and Martina Staab and Aggie Miller, both of Hays; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Eddie, Ted, Clarence, Paul and Walter.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Earl Befort presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6 p.m., an Eagles service at 6:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. Monday all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Hays. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, all at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established with Thomas More Prep-Marian High School or for Masses in his memory.
