Irene Rome, 79, of Arvada, a homemaker, died Aug. 25 in Wheat Ridge.

Mass of Christian burial was said Aug. 30 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

She was born March 15, 1922, in Munjor, Kan.

On Sept. 4, 1940, she married Joseph J. Rome in Hays, Kan. He preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Queen of Peace Prayer Group, and her interests included crafts, ceramics and crocheting.

She is survived by a son, Darrel, Westminster; three daughters, Doris Smith and Gladys Dinges, both of Arvada, and Kathleen Reynolds, Highlands Ranch; three brothers, Edward Pfannenstiel, Arvada, Arthur Pfannenstiel, Munjor, and Marvin Pfannenstiel, Squimm, Wash.; a sister, Virginia Pfannenstiel, Hays; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Wheatridge, Colo. -- Irene Rome, 79, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at Mount Vista Health Center.

She was born March 15, 1922, in Hays to John and Rosa (Degenhardt) Pfannenstiel.

She grew up in Hays and attended Hays schools.

She married Joe Rome on Sept. 4, 1940. He died Sept. 23, 1999.

Survivors include three daughters, Doris Smith and Gladys Dinges, both of Arvada, Colo., and Kathy Reynolds, Littleton, Colo.; a son, Darrell Rome, Arvada; a sister, Virginia Pfannenstiel, Hays; three brothers, Edward Pfannenstiel, Arvada, Arthur Pfannenstiel, Munjor, and Marvin Pfannenstiel, Seattle; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin and Vernon Pfannenstiel, and two sisters, Leona Befort and Helen Younger.

Services were Thursday at Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Arvada; burial was in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Arvada. Memorials are suggested to Hospice or Joan of Arc Church, in care of Doris Smith, 5142 Jellison Ct., Arvada, CO.
