Arthur "Art" Pfannenstiel, 84, Hays, died Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Hays Good Samaritan Society.

He was born January 26, 1930 in Munjor, Kansas the son of John and Rosa (Degenhardt) Pfannenstiel.

On August 4, 1952 he married Josita Rohleder in Emmeram, Kansas.

He was in the Kansas National Guard for three years, worked at Travenol for six years and was a self employed carpet and tile installer. He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus Council #11492 of Munjor. He played in polka bands for many years, loved his farm, and loved animals.

Survivors include his wife, of the home in Hays, three sons Tom Pfannenstiel and wife Danielle of St. Paul, MN, Doug Pfannenstiel and wife Cathy and Dan Pfannenstiel and wife Michele, all of Hays, one daughter Gloria Pfannenstiel of Hays, a daughter in law Sue Pfannenstiel of Apple Valley, MN, brothers Marvin Pfannenstiel of Sequin, WA and Edward Pfannenstiel of Pueblo, CO, six grandchildren Dr. Ramona Baumfalk and husband Barry of Kansas City, KS, John Pfannenstiel and Melissa Pfannenstiel, both of Apple Valley, MN, Taylor Pfannenstiel of Wichita, and Kylee Pfannenstiel and Rachel Pfannenstiel,both of Hays, three great grandchildren, Sydney, Bryant, and Brenyn Baumfalk of Kansas City, KS.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin and Vern Pfannenstiel, and four sisters, Leona Befort, Irene Rome, Virginia Pfannenstiel, and Helen Younger.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Munjor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 pm and on Thursday from 9:00 am until 9:45, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine St. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:00, a parish vigil will be at 6:30, followed by a Knights of Columbus council #11492 of Munjor rosary at 7:00 pm, all on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Cemetery Fund, the Cancer Council of Ellis County, or to the Hays Good Samaritan Society, in care of the funeral home.
