Virginia Pfannenstiel, 90, Hays, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at St. John's Assisted Living, Hays. She was born June 3, 1920, in Munjor to John and Rosa (Degenhardt) Pfannenstiel.

She married Nick N. Pfannenstiel on Aug. 22, 1938. He preceded her in death Oct. 28, 1999.

She worked at St. Anthony Hospital in pediatrics for more than 20 years. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella.

Survivors include a daughter, Aggie Chambers and husband, Art, Olathe; three brothers, Merf Pfannenstiel, Washington state, Eddie Pfannenstiel, Arvada, Colo., and Art Pfannenstiel, Hays; her grandchildren, Jenee Lynch and husband, Barry, and their children, Caleb and Caden, Jared Chambers and wife, Jenny, and their daughter, Adriana, and James "Jamie" Chambers and wife, Leah and their children, Carson and Alex; and a special companion, Dick Moore, Hays.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gerald "Jerry;" two brothers, Vernon and Edwin; and three sisters, Leona, Irene and Helen.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by a vigil at 6 p.m., both at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Building Fund or Masses in care of the funeral home.

Hays -- Nick N. Pfannenstiel, 85, Hays, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at his home. Mr. Pfannenstiel was born July 23, 1914, at Munjor.

He worked for Pepsi Cola for 18 years and as a carpenter for Maska Construction and Pierce-Schippers Construction. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1325 and Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia of the home; a daughter, Agnes A. Chambers of Olathe; a brother, Frank of Canadian, Texas; five sisters, Armella Dougherty, Blanche Pfannenstiel and Virginia Rome, all of Hays, JoAnne Befort of Lyons and Lillian Stremel of Great Bend; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, the Revs. Michael Suchnicki and David Metz officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays. A Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus honor guard will be at 6 p.m., a Daughters of Isabella rosary at 6:30 p.m., a parish vigil at 7 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m. today at Hays Memorial Chapel, 20th and Pine, Hays 67601.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Hays Medical Center or for Masses. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. until the service Saturday at the funeral home.
