Mrs Whitmer was the former Clara Belle Hulvey, born at Broadway, Virginia, Aug 17, 1883 to Ras and Mary (Ralls) Hulva. She was married to Samuel Whitmer of Beach, ND, on Jan 3 1907. To this union, 11 children were born; two sons preceded her in death, McKinley in 1950 and Kermit in 1918.
Her husband Sam of Bloomfield survives, with children Tom, Derby, Ras, Jeff of Bloomfield; Boone of Circle, Ted of Chickasha, Okla; Sylvia Nelson of Lindsay, Roxie Karls of Molt, and Santa Hrubes of Richey, Montana; two sisters, Ella Bowman of Broadway, Virginia, Hattie Hulvey of Bloomington, Ill. One brother, Mark Hulvey of Broadway; 34 grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs Whitmer before marriage was a volunteer nurse during the typhoid fever epidemic in Rockingham county. Following marriage she joined the non-partisan Ladies Auxilary of Beach. At Bloomfield she helped organize the first Auxilary and served on the Election Board for many years. She always had a large garden, baked prize-winning bread and loved large family gatherings with family musicians and grandchildren about.
