Romuald J. "Jerry" Zimmerman, 83, Hays, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, at Hays Medical Center. He was born Nov. 14, 1921, in Schoenchen to Gabreal and Anna (Degenhardt) Zimmerman.

He married Mary Jane Stecklein on Nov. 14, 1951, in Hays. She died Oct. 29, 1995.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was wounded in action. He was an oil field worker, worked at the Co-Op and worked in the custodial department at Fort Hays State University.

Survivors include a son, Robert Zimmerman, Wichita; two daughters, Wanda Brown and Deborah Linenberger, both of Hays; a sister, Mildred Dreiling, Hays; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Tryon, January of 1985.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery with graveside military honors by the Hays VFW. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine. There will be a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials are suggested to the Jerry Zimmerman Memorial Fund, the recipient to be named at a later date.
