Bernita M. Ginther, 86, of Salina, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 1, 2020. Bernita was born January 1, 1934, the daughter of Jacob and Alice (Roth) Degenhardt, in Lorreta.


Bernita was a dedicated nurse who retired from St. John's Hospital. She taught and mentored many young nurses who remember that she "showed them not only what to do but how to faithfully do it". She volunteered countless hours at Tammy Walker Cancer Center and Ryan Mortuary ministering to families. She was a member of St. Mary's Church for more than 51 years, where she worked funeral luncheons and ministered communion to Drury Place residents and homebound parishioners.


She married Frank Ginther on June 6, 1955 in Salina.


She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing bridge, traveling and golfing. She loved watching all kinds of sports especially her boys' games and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank, in 2003; brother, Romuald Degenhardt; sister, Rosie Mennemeier and sister Eleanor Hommes.


Survivors include her four sons, Keith Ginther, and his wife, Julie, Highlands Ranch, CO, Mike Ginther, and his wife, Robin, Overland Park, Jim Ginther, and his wife, Pam, Tulsa, OK, and David Ginther, and his wife, LaShelle, Leawood; nine grandchildren, Joel Ginther, Lynsey Webb, Baylee Ginther, Min Fei Ginther, Clayton Ginther, Laura Winsworth, Mark Ginther, Reagan Ginther, and Landon Ginther; seven great-grandchildren; brother, James Degenhardt (Vera) and brother, Frank Degenhardt.


Recitation of the rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 4th, followed by Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., all at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud, Salina. Celebration of life in St. Mary's Parish Hall will immediately follow the Mass; private graveside burial for her sons and their families in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church Endowment Fund or Tammy Walker Cancer Center.
