Eleanor A. “Ellie” Hommes, 89, of Salina, passed away January 19, 2017.
Ellie was born August 22, 1927, the daughter of Jacob and Alice (Roth) Degenhardt, in Lorreta, KS.

Ellie was an accomplished seamstress. She would sew clothing for her children, home and even wedding dresses.

She married Paul P. Burghart on April 23rd 1947 in Hays, KS. Following his passing in 1952, she married Robert L. “Bob” Hommes on June 12, 1954 in Independence, MO.

She was a member of St. Mary’s church for over 60 years where she worked funeral luncheons and was an active volunteer for many of those years.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends; whether it was over a game of Bridge or Friday Night Poker. She loved cooking and working outside in her garden. To everyone’s surprise, sports became an obsession late in life for Ellie. She became an avid fan of the Kansas City Royals and loved attending games with her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 1952, and her second husband, Bob in 2006; brother, Romuald Degenhardt; and sister, Rosie Mennemeier. She is survived by her five children, son, Paul Burghart and wife Laura of Wichita; and four daughters, Charlotte Burghart Congleton and husband Bill of Manhattan; Susan Wilson and husband Greg of Leawood; Carol Ball and husband Ted of Overland Park; Liz Dix and husband Brad of Salina; 13 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Bernita Ginther; brother, Jim Degenhardt and wife Vera; and brother, Frank Degenhardt.

A rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2017 at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud Street, Salina, KS; followed by funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
