Former Fairbanks resident, Alan "Bud" Charles Brown, 64, of Yakima, Wash., died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, in the Heritage Grove Care Center.

Bud was born Jan. 13, 1937, to Alves and Mary Brown.

Bud was a hard-working man who owned and operated Valley Electric Co. in Fairbanks for many years.

He was married to Mildred Melson on April 12, 1968, at Santa Claus House in North Pole.

They enjoyed spending time together golfing and taking trips. Some of their best memories were the trip to Hawaii and the road trips to the Lower 48. Bud was also an avid snowmachine rider in the wintertime. They returned to the Yakima area in 1994 and enjoyed spending time with their families. Bud was an excellent grandfather and truly loved to spend time playing with the kids. He will be greatly missed by his friends in Alaska and in Yakima. His family will always remember Bud for his kind and loving personality.

He is survived by his wife Mildred Brown of Yakima; mother Mary Heilman of Yakima; sons Alan Brown Jr. of Fairbanks, Wade Brown of Ohio, Albert Lawson of Fairbanks, and daughter Pam and her husband Don Lane of Fairbanks; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Bonnie Brown of Camano Island, Wash., and Joe and Donelda Heilman of Yakima; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Tom Harrington of Yakima; and 7 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father Alves Brown and stepfather Joseph Heilman.

Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Keith & Keith Funeral Home on 9th Avenue in Yakima. Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m. in the Keith & Keith Terrace Heights Chapel, 2807 Terrace Heights Drive. Concluding services and burial will follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
