Henry Gugler, Jr., the youngest son of Johann Heinrich "Henry" Gugler and the former Miss Friedrika Christiana Catharina Kasten, was born in the bounds of Brooklyn, New York in September 1857. His parents were resent emirates from Stuttgard, Germany. Henry's father was the well-known metal engraver of a life size engraving of President Lincoln, completed in 1869.

In 1871, young Henry joined his father and two older brothers to form a lithographic company, called Henry Gugler and Sons in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After the death of Henry Sr. in 1880, the brothers continued the business and in 1883, reorganized as The Gugler Lithographic Company with Julius as president and Henry, Jr. as Secretary-Treasure. The company employed some “fifty-five artists, artisans, and others” by the mid-1880's.

On October 12th 1886, Henry married Miss Alice Mann, daughter of Hermann and Claire [née Weiss] Mann.

In 1892, Henry, Jr. represented the firm received a certificate of award at the World’s Columbian Exposition for its commercial lithographic work.
