Edward J. Basgall, 86, La Crosse, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at Bethany Home, Lindsborg. He was born March 2, 1925, in Loretto to John W. and Mary (Degenhardt) Basgall. He was a farmer.


He married Frances E. Herrman on May 29, 1945, in Liebenthal. She preceded him in death July 25, 2009.


Survivors include four sons, William Basgall and wife, Sue, Salina, Duane Basgall, Wichita, John Basgall and wife, Barbara, Oklahoma City, and Paul Basgall and wife, Deanna, Olathe; a daughter, Sylvia Gross and husband, Gerald, Munjor; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Sylvanus Basgall, William Basgall and Jerome Basgall; and four sisters, Hilda Stramel, Cleopha Berens, Alice Pfannenstiel and Joann Weber.


Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church, La Crosse; burial in La Crosse City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse. A vigil/rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.


Memorials are suggested to Bethany Home, Lindsborg, or Hospice Care of Kansas, McPherson, in care of the funeral home.
