Kathryn Schaap, 85, of Sheldon died Saturday, November 5, at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon with the Revs. Greg Timmer and Brian Bolkema officiating. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery, Sheldon.

Mrs. Schaap was born October 28, 1920, in Sioux Center, the daughter of John and Adrianna (De Stigter) Visser. She lived her youth in Sioux Center where she attended Christian grade school and public high school. She married Wallace Schapp of Orange City on September 12, 1940, in Sioux Center. They lived in Alton and Sutherland until 1953, when they moved to Sheldon. They enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in Florida and Arizona. He died on January 14, 2003.

She was a faithful member of First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon, where she was a member of the Golden Hour Society. She was also a member of the Christian School Auxiliary.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Harlan Bolkema of Sheldon; three sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Twyla Schap of Milford, Arlyn and Beatrice Schaap of Orange City and Lyle and Barbara Schaap of Sioux Falls; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Visser of Sioux Center and Jean Visser of Denver, Colorado.

She was also preceded in death by three grandchildren; four brothers, Peter, Leonard, Thomas and John Visser; and a half-sister, Ann Visser Bratt.
