Funeral For John Visser 1:30 Today
Local Stores To Close 1 to 3 P.M.

Funeral services will be held at First Christian Reformed church here at 1:30 p.m. today (Thursday) for John A.Visser, 41, well-known Sioux Center businessman, who passed away at the Sioux Center Community hospital early Monday evening. Mr. Visser had earlier this month undergone surgery at Iowa City for the removal of a brain tumor.

Sioux Center business places and professional offices will be closed from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. today (Thursday) out of respect for John Visser, of Visser Brothers Elevator Company, whose funeral is this afternoon.

Services will be conducted by the Rev. B.J. Haan and burial will be made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral Home.
A brief service attended by members of the family will be held at Vander Ploeg's Chapel preceding the service at the church. Pallbearers are Sam Holtrup, Albert Hooyer. William Sybesma, Henry Nibbelink, Leonard Nyhof, Vern Huisman. Honorary pallbearers are Case Van Velzen, George Bierma, Marion Krediet, John G. W. Rozeboom, William J. Broek, Ted Van Bruggen, Pete Visser, Al Walraven and Al Bonnema.

Mr. Visser was a life-long resident of Sioux Center. He had been engaged for many years with his brother, Lane, in the operation of Visser Brothers Elevator Company. He was born here July 1, 1922. He was united in marriage to Gertrude J.H. Van.Ingen on June 26, 1947, at Alton, Iowa, and to this union five children were born.

Survivors besides his wife include four children, Nancy Beth, 14, Garret John, 12, Lisa Kay, 5, and Miriam H., 2. One son, Howard John, preceded him in death on November 6, 1951.

Other survivors include three brothers, Peter of Pocahontas, Thomas and Leonard of Sioux Center; a sister, Kathryn (Mrs. Wally Schaap) of Sheldon. One brother, Peter, died in infancy.

Mr. Visser was an active deacon in the First Christian Reformed church and had served one previous term as deacon. He was also president of the local Christian School board and was a veteran of World War II.
