Death Of George M. Oyster
Pioneer Merchant of Washington Had Spent 86 Years of His Life Here
George M. Oyster, pioneer merchant of Washington where he lived for 86 years, died yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at his home, 210 East Capitol Street. Death was due to the infirmities of age. Mr. Oyster had been failing for some months. He was 89 years old.

Funeral services will be held from the family residence tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Father O'Brien of St. Peter's Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Oyster came to Washington with his parents when but 3 years old from his birth place near Emmitsburg, Maryland. He attended the city schools and in 1845 went to East Yarmouth College, Maine. He left college before finishing the course, coming home to attend the funeral of his father.

In 1848 Mr. Oyster began his long business career here. He engaged in the marketing of diary products and built up a successful business which is now being carried on by his sons. He retired from the business in 1888. He is survived by five children, three sons and two daughters, all of whom live here. They are George M. Jr., James F. and D. William Oyster and Mrs. Albert Schulteis and Mrs. Dr. J.B. Rutherford. Mr. Oyster was active in many fraternal organizations and in church and charity work.
