She was born February 25, 1928, at Pfeifer, Kansas to Casper and Anna Margaret (Urban) Degenhardt. She married Victor Klein on August 26, 1947 at Pfeifer, Kansas and they later separated.
She worked in retail sales all of her life, and worked 11 years at Kline's Department Store - McDonald Department Store on The Mall at Hays. In her prior years Cleo worked at MoDoDay Clothing Store in downtown Hays, and Tempo's Department Store.
Cleo grew up and attended school in Pfeifer, Kansas and she was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays, Kansas.
Survivors include her daughters, Sherry Bieker and husband, Ron, Dallas, TX; Bonnie Trick and husband, Ron, Hays, KS; Susan Trembley and husband, John, Hays, KS; her brother, Ken Degenhardt and wife, Jill, Wichita, KS; her sister, Sylvia Kruse and husband, Dave, Hoxie, KS; seven grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
Cleo was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Vernon Degenhardt and an infant brother, Larry Degenhardt; her sisters, Viola "Effie" Fiffe, and Ruby Antrim.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a memorial service will be held at a later date with Inurnment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas.
The family suggests memorials to Holy Cross Charities, Inc. made payable to the organization in care of Cline's-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.
