Arthur Eugene "Gene" Horton, age 98 of Winchester was called home to be with the Lord early on Saturday, February 11, 2023. Gene was also known to many as "Papa" and was married to his sweetheart of 74 years, Stanley Adams Horton.
Gene was an educator for many years and is remembered fondly by many of his former students, both in Clark County and in Ohio.
Gene served in World War II from 1943-1946. He was a Tech Sargent and served as a messenger to the Army Depots in the South Pacific, Philippine Islands and Japan.
Our Papa was the epitome of Godliness, graciousness, and kindness, with a little bit of mischievousness. He is so dearly loved and missed by his wife Stanley, children; David (Tammy) Horton, Ed (Debbie) Horton, Melesa (Ron) Sturdivant; grandchildren; Tawny Horton, Sarah (Will) Burkes, Alex (Emily) Horton, Cody (Alli) Fletcher, Cheyenne (Rodney) Haddix; great grandchildren; Rowen Mahon, Henry and Everett Burkes, Amara and Nia Haddix, Alba and Ellis Horton, and Huston Fletcher.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents Z.A. and Mildred Osborne Horton, his brothers and sisters in law, Luther (Flossie) Horton, Buford T. (Thelma) Horton, sister, Kathleen (Joe) Chambers, and son in law, Paul Fletcher.
Our Papa was an example of a life well lived and he will be in our hearts forever.
Services will be at 1:00PM, Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at the Leon Pace Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cody Fletcher, Rodney Haddix, Ron Sturdivant, Alex Horton, William Burkes, and John Adams.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00PM, Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at the Leon Pace Memorial Chapel.
