Buford T. Horton

Buford T. Horton, 91, of Winchester, husband for 68 years to Thelma Chambers Horton, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at the Clark Regional Medical Center. A native of Clark County, he was the son of the late Rev. Z.A. and Mildred Osborne Horton. He was a United States Captain 8th Airforce with 27 missions over Germany during WWII. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Rank 1 in Educational Administration. He taught in Indiana, Florida and Kentucky; he taught in Clark County at Central Elementary and Conkwright Middle School. He was also Superintendent of Education in Estill County. He was preceded in death by a brother, Luther George Horton.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Chambers Horton; a son, Stephen Thomas “Tom” Horton; a daughter, Rebecca (Garry) Taylor; three grandchildren, Stephen (Kristy) Horton, Allen (LeAnn) Taylor and Lori (Ralph) Payne; six great-grandchildren, Zach and Ella Grace Horton, Garry Allen and Grant Jackson Taylor, Langdon and Logan Winburn; a brother, Gene (Stanley) Horton; and a sister, Kathleen (Joe) Chambers.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 14, 2013, at the Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Cruse and Rev. Chris Williams officiating. Burial was at the Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Taylor, Bob Reed, Eugene Hampton, Junior Dixon, Paul McLemore, David McLemore and Lloyd Wells.
