Viola Marie Sack, 79, Hays, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at Hays Medical Center. She was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Pfeifer to Martin and Pauline (Leiker) Degenhardt.

She married Michael F. Sack on July 31, 1944, in Hays.

In 1955, they left Hays and lived in Wyoming, Montana, and North Dakota and returned to Hays in 1982. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; four daughters, Carol Ann Murphy, Enid, Okla., Betty Lou Holland, Laurel, Mont., Mary Frances Nelsen, Greeley, Colo., and Norma Jean Felice, Evans, Colo.; two brothers, Father Gervase Degenhardt, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Martin Degenhardt Jr., Equador; four sisters, Esther Burgardt, Verna Schumacher, and Joyce Pfeifer, all of Hays, and Veronica Ditto, Everman, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hays. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday with vigil service at 7 p.m. Thursday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hays Medical Center or for Masses.
