Georgia Governor. Talmadge was elected governor in 1933, serving until 1937. He lost two bids for US Senate in 1936 and 1938. He was elected again as the state's governor from 1941 to 1943, but lost a re-election bid after he caused an education scandal which resulted in ten state colleges and universities losing their accreditation. However, he won re-election in 1946, but died before re-entering office. He is also the father of Georgia Governor and US Senator Herman Talmadge.
