Ralph Riddle (1916-1990), whose grandmother and father had been enslaved, became the Pasadena Police Department's first black officer in 1946. After serving 28 years Riddle retired from the Pasadena Police Department in 1974. Riddle then became the Director of Security at Pasadena City College.
