He married Arlie Irene Sorem April 18, 1933, in Nonchalanta. She died Jan. 5, 1999.
A resident of Dodge City, coming from Jetmore, he worked at Fairmont Creamery in Dodge City and then built and operated Stramel Grocery Store in Dodge City. Stramel was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge and the Senior Center, all of Dodge City.
Survivors include five sons, Melvin Stramel of Detroit, Mich., Claire Stramel of Omaha, Neb., Andrew Stramel Jr. of Tampa, Fla., Clyde Stramel of Loveland, Colo., and Kenny Stramel of Lakewood, Colo.; two daughters, Florence Hines of Spearville and Dorothy Gabel of Fowler; two brothers, Ernie Stramel of Wichita and Hilary Stramel of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Tillie Robertson of Mason, Ariz.; 26 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Malcolm Stramel, Mike Stramel, Albert Stramel, and Carl Stramel; and five sisters, Louise Stramel, Josephine Stramel, Ida Stramel, Elizabeth Stramel and Katie Stramel.
Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. John Strasser officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Jetmore. Friends may call until 8 tonight, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, all at Beckwith Funeral Home in Jetmore. Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Grade School Endowment Fund, in care of funeral home.
