Professional Football Player. He began his football career as a guard from 1947 to 1950 at St. Bonaventure College, which was located in a village in upstate New York. He joined the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League in 1950 and appeared in 12 games, earning a starting spot in each appearance. Nicksich was credited with receiving three interceptions and forced three fumbles. His career was cut short due to a knee injury the following season, and he never appeared in the NFL again. After his football career ended, Nicksich owned and operated the Duquesne Hotel in Monessen, Pennsylvania, and later was a guard at the Westmoreland County Jail. In April of 1968, Nicksich was arrested and charged with robbing a bank unarmed in Olean, New York of $5,890, but surrendered five minutes after committing the crime. Later, he was found mentally unfit to stand trial. Born the son of Hungarian immigrants, he was called "Jooks," and the family's surname was originally spelled "Niksch." According to his obituary, he was the Rookie Defensive Lineman for the NFL in 1950. After many years of suffering from alcoholism, he died of liver failure at age 56. He had two sons.
