Collector. Alexander Horsburgh Turnbull was a bibliophile and collector who amassed the largest private library in New Zealand, consisting of over fifty-five thousand books. As well as this he also collected thousands of artworks, manuscripts and newspapers which, along with his library, were donated to the Crown who subsequently established it as the Alexander Turnbull Library in 1920. For many years his collection was housed in his residence 'Turnbull House' however since 1987, his collection has been held in the National Library of New Zealand.

"Not gone from memory, not gone from love, but gone to his father's house above" Also Alexandrina Horsburgh, beloved wife of Walter TURNBULL, died 25 November 1896, aged 69, and Walter TURNBULL, husband of the above Alexandrina TURNBULL, son of John TURNBULL and Isabella Thorburn, born 16 March 1823 at Selkirk in Scotland, died 3 October 1897.
