Nobility. Son of Héracle-Louis Comte de Polignac and Diane Zéphirine Mancini. He pursued a military career and joined the Royal Dragoons. He was created duke by patent in 1780. The family left France in July 1789 and later lived in Switzerland, Italy, Prague and later Vienna where his wife died. Catherine II granted him land in Ukraine, where he stayed even during the Bourbon Restoration. He was created peer of France in 1814 but continued to remain in Russia
