Professional Wrestler, Wrestling Promoter. He is universally regarded as one of the top three professional wrestling stars in Japanese history. After training under the legendary Rikidozan in Japan Pro Wrestling Alliance (JWA), he went on to an incomparable career as both a wrestler and promoter. He founded All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) in mid-1972. He promoted, wrestled and booked until his death. During his in-ring career he was a 3-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion (defeating Jack Brisco the first time and then Harley Race the following 2 times), 4-time PWF World Heavyweight Champion, 18-time NWA International Tag Team Champion, and 3-time NWA International Heavyweight Champion. He had his last match for AJPW when he was 60 years old in December of 1998. He was awarded by the Wrestling Observer as the best booker (1989-1991), best promoter (1990-1994) and the 5th inductee into the inaugural WON Hall of Fame in 1996. Pro Wrestling Illustrated awarded him No. 26 out of 500 top singles wrestlers and No. 10 out of 100 tag teams with Jumbo Tsuruta in the PWI Years category. In 2008, he was posthumously inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame (PWHF). In 2021, Giant Baba was posthumously inducted into the International Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame (IPWHF).
