A lot of thorough research has been done by many and I thank them, for much was provided to me below combined with my own research as I reference source documents, striving for accuracy on all details and info given here.

This Lucinda/Lucy Asher's parents are Robert Sidney Asher and Mary 'Polly' Morgan.

Her father was first married to Mary 'Polly' Sizemore in 1827 and she died in 1858. Widowed, he married Mary/Polly Morgan, Mar 2, 1862, Clay, KY. ( which makes a birth year for Lucy of 1851 on DC incorrect)

Her father Robert Asher 59 a miller is listed on the 1860 census, Clay, KY, living with his married son Dillion 29 a farmer, his wife Eliza 24 and their children Robert 3, Willis 1, and his daughter Rebecca Asher 22, a spinner and weaver. Rebecca married William Pennington in 1861. (there is no Lucinda/Lucy listed with them)

-----------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT: There are TWO different Lucinda/ Lucy Asher's both born Kentucky. That Lucinda/Lucy Asher is daughter of John H. Asher and Nancy Chapele/Chappell and also married James Madison Merida/Meredith, twice.

Her memorial has documents posted. See below for more information.**

----------------------------------------------------------------------

This Lucinda/Lucy Asher 6 appears on the 1870 census, Clay, KY with parents Robert 66 a farmer, his new wife Polly 24 and her siblings Emily 4 and Ulysses 2.

Her parents Robert Sidney Asher and Mary "Polly" Morgan had two other children, who were born after 1870, Jordan and Katherine. Jordan was born February 6, 1872 and Katherine "Katie" on May 2, 1877, less than a month after her father died.

In 1880, Katie/Catie age 4, was living with her mother, widow Pollie Asher 30 listed as a servant with family of William and Vina Hall, Leslie County, KY.

Lucy's father died 1877, mother Mary/Polly was widow, so Lucy's sister Emily is living with Rebecca Asher Pennington on 1880 census.

Her brother Jordan born Feb 6, 1872 (not 1883) was living with Henry Asher family (son of Robert Sidney Asher and Mary "Polly" Sizemore) on the 1880 census, Leslie County, KY.

While Lucy and her brother, Ulysses, were staying with Dillion Asher (s/o Robert Sidney Asher and Mary "Polly" Sizemore) and his wife Louisa and 9 children on the 1880 census, Leslie County, KY.

Their widowed mother Pollie Asher 30 is listed as a servant on 1880 census, Leslie County, KY, with family of William and Vina Hall, and with her is Katie/Catie age 4.

Note that James M. Meradith 17 married Elizabeth Carnes 16, Feb 9, 1880, and the daughter Martha was born Feb 1880.

See below for more information about two James Meredith's

Lucy married James Merida/Meredith and Henry Lincoln Lawson, although no marriage records have been found. It looks like Lucy and James Merida was around 1884, and her marriage to Link Lawson was around 1891-1892. Unless it was common law

Katie Asher married Robert McCreary Jan 31, 1899. Mary Morgan was living with Katie and her family when she died, and is buried close to Katie.

Lucy Lawson 30 is listed on 1900 census Sims Fork, Bell County, Kentucky, with husband Lincoln 27 a farmer born Aug 1872, and their children Molly 12, Dock 8, Tinsley 6, Ollie 4, Susan 2 and Bertha 4 mons. This record indicates they were married 8 years, had 8 children, 8 living.

Yet Molly is 12 born 1888, she a Meredith.

Residing next to them is Wilkerson Lawson 21 and his wife Fanny 19. He is brother of Henry Lincoln Lawson.

Lucy Lawson 40 and husband Lincoln 42 appear on the 1910 census, Left Fork, Bell County, KY, with children Dock 21, Tinsley 17, Ollie 14, Susie 12, Bertha 10, Dan 8, Silas 6 and Sarah 1 year 8 mons. This record indicates it is Lincoln's first marriage and Lucy's second. She had 11 children, 11 living.

Martha Meredith and Lewis Lawson are residing nearby. He is son of Ransom 'Rant' Lawson. The record indicates Martha and Lewis had been married 11 years, his 2nd and her first.

They also live adjacent to farm families of Richard W. Asher and wife Sally, James F. Asher and wife China, and Wilkerson Asher and wife Deborah, all with children.

On the 1920 census, Lucy 50 and Link 49 were still in Left Fork, Bell County, KY. In the household were children, Susie 22, Bertha 18, Tinsley 26, David 18, Silas 15, and Sarah 11 and grandson George, 3.

Lucy's age changes on the 1930 census to 68 (1862) and Link's to 59, with children Tinsley 37 divorced, single daughter Sarah 21 and grandchildren George 12 and Ardill 8.

They reside adjacent to Daniel and Mollie Lawson family.

Lucy 75 and Lincoln 69 are listed on 1940 census, living at Left Fork of Straight Creek, with their married daughter Susie Baker 40 and her 6 children, also a grandson George Lawson 24 and grandson Ardell France 18.

Their farm is adjacent to his brother Daniel Lawson family.

Obituary Pineville, Sun, Nov 16, 1944:

"Lawson, Mrs. Lucy -90 years old, died at her home at Field Thursday after a long illness. She is survived by six daughters and three sons, Mrs. Lewis Lawson, Mrs. Richard Lawson and Mrs. Mason Slusher, Beverly, Ky., Mrs. Chester Baker, Field, Ky., Mrs. S.M. Slusher, Pineville and Mrs. Bill Baker, Kettle Island; Dock Lawson, Daniel Lawson, Field, and Tinsley Lawson, Helton, Ky. Fifty grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock at the home, conducted by the Rev. A.R. Lehman. Burial will be under direction of N.T. Arnett & Son."

Children:

---Martha Meredith who married Lewis Lawson may be child of James Meredith and wife Elizabeth Carnes who married Feb 1880. Martha was born Feb 1880. There is thinking, though, that the biological mother of Martha Meredith may have been Jeanette Collett. On the 1900 census there is a Martha J. living in the household of Jeanette Collett Wilson, listed as her daughter, with a birth year of about 1881. She is listed as being married one year. If this is Martha Meredith, then it looks like she is on the 1900 census twice, as there is a Martha Lawson living with her husband, Lewis Lawson, and eleven-month-old daughter, Mollie, on the 1900 census. On this listing Martha's birth year is listed as 1880 and she is listed as being married two years. Jeanette Collett and James Merida/Meredith had a daughter, Mary, October 18, 1882. Martha (Mrs. Lewis Lawson)is listed as a surviving daughter on Lucy's obit.

---Hugh Meredith married Marinda Lawson, sadly he was killed in an attempted escape from prison.

--Mollie Meredith married Silas Slusher

--Mary Meredith married George Wilson of Leslie Co.

--Bertha Lawson married Chester Baker.

------------------------------------------------------------------

**The other Lucinda/Lucy Asher appears age 5 on 1880 census, Otter Creek, Clay County, KY with parents John H. Asher 29 a farmer, Nancy 38 and siblings Elizabeth 7, Wilkerson 4, Florence 3, and Thomas 7 months. Also in household are two Sizemore farm laborers. They reside adjacent and nearby other Asher households - Thomas and Elizabeth Asher family, Jackson D and Margaret Asher, Thomas and Martha Asher, Dillion M and Lucretia Asher, Robert and Margaret Asher, etc.

Note: there are some children born before they married in 1890 and I don't know who the biological father/fathers are even though it appears Lucy raised them. Perhaps Elizabeth Carnes or other wives of James.

A marriage bond for Lucinda Asher to James M. Merida (spelled that way), Jan 24, 1890 Clay, KY, has a note of permission attached and signed by J.H. Asher and Nancy Asher.

The marriage record for them indicates married at J. H. Asher's house in Clay County, KY. Witnessed by Nathan Collett* and J.C. Wilson.

NOTE: J.H. Asher is John H. Asher, son of Josiah Asher, son of Dillion Blevins Asher. He is half brother to Robert Sidney Asher.

Lucy filed for divorce in Aug 6, 1890 and it was granted in Oct 22, 1891.

Then, see marriage record for that Lucy Asher who married James Meredith again Dec 10, 1896, Mills Post Office, Knox County KY, which gives her parents J. H. Asher and Nancy. This record indicates his 4th marriage and Lucy's 2nd.

Allen Messer signed the marriage certificate. His mother is Anna Patterson and they are related to Carnes.

(Mills is an unincorporated community on Stinking Creek, about 15 miles NE of Barbourville, Knox KY, the post office opened in 1891.)

Though they married twice, did Lucy Asher and James Merida/Meridith have any children together unless they are twins James and Lee who use last name Asher.

Lucy Asher 23 is listed as married on 1900 census, Pineville, Bell, KY with children James and Lee both 6 and Katie 2 mons. Katie is Lenorah K who uses name Cellers when marrying Carl H Booth in 1919, California as she was raised by the Cellers family in California.

Lucy Asher 33 is a restaurant keeper on 1910 census, Pineville, with twins Lee and James Asher 15. This record indicates she had 5 children, 4 living.

The puzzle deepens as there are TWO James Merida/Meredith/Merideth's who appear separately on the 1870 censuses. One is James son of Bradley and Mahala and he is living with his widowed mother and siblings in Clay County KY. He is the one who married the first Lucinda/Lucy Asher twice.

The other James Meredith is living with his parents W. A. and Nancy in Edmonson County.

He married Elizabeth Carnes, Feb 9, 1880, Knox, KY

married Janetta Collett abt 1881

married Nancy Smith, Mar 19, 1883, Clay KY

married Martha Jones, Mar 21, 1889, Knox KY

married Lucinda/Lucy Asher in 1890, divorced 1892, married again 1896, divorced 1897.

married Sarah J. Patterson, July 13, 1892, Knox KY

married Martha A Simpson, Aug 17, 1897, Knox KY

married Sarah Mills, Sept 13, 1900, Clay KY

The newspaper articles attached to James' memorial indicate he was killed by Elijah Patterson. Seems that James Merida 37 widow born June 1862 is listed on the 1900 census, Upper Stinking Creek, Knox County KY and happens to live nearby the farm family of Elijah and Martha J. Patterson .

------------------------------------------------------------------

*Additional info: Nathan/Nathaniel Collett in Clay County born about 1853/54, son of William Collett and Betsy /Elizabeth Jane on 1870 census.

His sister is "Gennetta" C. Collett born 1863/64 is likely the Janetta Collett, another wife of James Meredith.
