Italian Painter. He spent his childhood at the Glaveno seminary, then enrolled at the Accademia Albertina in Turin on a scholarship in 1873. He made his debut in 1882 and two years later he he participated in the Esposizione Generale Italiana in Turin with a painting inspired by La storia di una capinera by Giovanni Verga. Among his notable works include the controversial "Supreme Conference" (1895 - destroyed in a ship fire), "La Femme" (1895), and "La Nuda" (1898). He exhibited his art all over Europe and was the recipient of Knight of the Order of Saints Maurizio and Lazzaro (1893), the Commander of the Order of the Crown of Italy (1907), the Great Official of the Order of the Crown of Italy (1922), and the Knight of the Order of the Legion of Honor. He died at the age of 87.
