WANATAH - Viola L. Gast, 73, a life-long resident of the Wanatah area, died Friday at Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso.
She was born Feb. 14, 1908, in Hobart, the daughter of George and Dorathea (Riechart) Carpenter. On Jan. 22, 1927, she married Roy W. Gast at the Immanuel Lutheran church in Valparaiso.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Evelyn Rogers and Gladys Rogers of Valparaiso; a son, Vernon Gast Sr. of Wanatah; two brothers, George Carpenter of Valparaiso and Leslie Carpenter of South Haven; two sisters, Marie Lipke of Westville and Gertrude Magnuson of California; and 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services 2 p.m. Monday at Bartholomew Funeral Home; burial in Graceland Cemetery; visitation 1:30 to 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
