Psychiatrist and neurologist. Regarded as the most influential Italian psychiatrist of the 20th century. Founded the Democratic Psychiatry society. Main proponent of Law 180, or Basaglia Law, which saw large reform in Italian psychiatric systems, including the abolishment of mental hospitals.
