Actor. He was an American motion picture actor of the 1930s through the 1950s with over 200 film appearances, mostly in western movies. Starting in 1932, his roles were uncredited until 1938. He continued with minor parts, mostly uncredited, until after 1945. He had minor roles in six films that were Academy Award nominations for Best Picture with two receiving the award. His last film was in 1956, "Red Sundown." With his sudden death, his last three films were released posthumously. Known for a perfect speaking voice, he never made voice-over documentaries. He made numerous rodeo appearances. He graduated from the University of Southern California and studied at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's drama school. He married and the couple had two children.
