Noted Traveler, Writer and Explorer. She was born in Paris (France) and died in Asolo (Italy). She traveled to Turkey and the Middle East where few Europeans, particularly women, had traveled before. She was a pioneer, and was described by The Times of London as "the last of the Romantic Travellers." She published during her lifetime more than thirty books about her travels in the Middle East, including The Southern Gates of Arabia and The Valleys of the Assassins.
