The death of Ludwig Wolter, well known former resident of this county occurred, yesterday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Kanne in Waterville. He had been in feeble health for a long time, and was partially blind, but bore his afflictions with great fortitude. He had made his home with his daughter in Waterville since last spring, moving from this city to that place. The remains will be brought here Friday forenoon, on the south-bound train, and the funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock at the Evangelical church, Rev. H. A. Seder, the pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Woodville cemetery. The deceased was about eighty-four years old, and was a resident of this county for over thirty years. He was born in Mecklenberg, Germany, and lived in that country until he was about twenty-four years old. He then came alone to Milwaukee, Wis., where he remained for a few years. He then went to Waukesha county, where he engaged in farming. In that county he was married to Miss Elizabeth Lorenz. After residing in Waukesha county for a time, the couple went to Milwaukee where they lived for a short time, and ten moved to Appleton, in the same state. After a few years spent in that place they came to Minnesota and settled on a farm in Steele county, and lived in that county for six or seven years. They then came to this county over thirty years ago, and settled on the farm in Iosco township. The couple moved to this city about twelve years ago, to take a deserved rest from their labors. Mrs. Wolter died in this city last Thanksgiving day, and he remained here during the winter, moving to Waterville last spring to make his home with his daughter at that place. He is survived by nine children, two sons and seven daughters as follows: Mrs. August Wendland of Paynesville, Mrs. Frederick of Kansas, Mrs. Henry Kanne of Waterville, Mrs. Paul Kanne of Lemon N. D., Mrs. August Kanne and Mrs. Ernest Kanne who live near Waterville, Mrs. Lydia Isker of Winnebago, Albert Wolter and Will Wolter of Iosco, by two brothers and two sisters, John Wolter of Morristown and Henry Wolter who lives near Meriden, Steele county, and Mrs. Wilhelmina Peters and Mrs. Sophia Hensel of this city. He is also survived by a number of grandchildren. Mr. Wolter was a farmer the greater part of his life. His sterling honesty and excellent character made him staunch friends of all who knew him, and he had the respect of the community in which he lived.
