Italian priest, educator and teacher. He was killed by Cosa Nostra because of his constant evangelical and social commitment. On 25 May 2013, on the lawn of the Foro Italico in Palermo, in front of a crowd of about one hundred thousand people, he was proclaimed blessed. The celebration was presided over by the Archbishop of Palermo, Cardinal Paolo Romeo, while Cardinal Salvatore De Giorgi, delegated by Pope Francis, read the apostolic letter with which the rite of beatification was carried out. He was the first mafia victim recognized as a martyr of the Church.
