In the 1885 census, "Lizzie" was living with her parents and siblings in Freedom Township, Ellis County, KS. John Meder married Elizabeth Stegman Mader on January 26, 1897 in Pfeifer, Ellis Co, KS by Rev P Emmeram. In 1904 John sold his Pfeifer farm and bought land near Grainfield, KS. They are listed in the 1905 census as residing in Payne, Gove County KS. He was killed by lightening on May 24, 1909 in Park, KS. At the time of his death, she was the mother of 6 children (4 daughters,2 sons) and pregnant with their 7th child. Johanna was born December 24, 1909, exactly 7 months after the death of her father.
Elizabeth (frequently referred to as "Lizzy Stegman") supported her children by becoming a schoolteacher in Pfeifer, KS. For a period, she lived with her parents. On November 26, 1912, she married Peter P Weigel at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emmeram, KS. At the time, Peter P was a widow with 5 living children/daughters. Peter P and Elizabeth together became parents to 4 more children. Sometime after Peter P's death, Elizabeth moved to Brighton, CO to live with her daughter Hildegard. She lived there until her death. In 1999, her daughter Anna was buried in the same grave plot.
