Laurence Winton Boon, Sr. died Monday July 23, 2001 from heart failure complicated by pneumonia. He was born in Wilmington, NC on January 20, 1911. He moved to Atlanta, GA where he married Rachel Creech before joining the war effort of WWII. He served well and received the Bronze Star before returning back home. He moved to Jacksonville in 1949 with his wife and family. Laurence and Rachel were the 12th (Sept. 21, 1952) charter members of the Lakewood Presbyterian Church. He served as a Deacon from 1954 to 1956 and Trustee from 1979 to 1982. He was employed by the E.I. DuPont Company for his entire professional career. He is survived by one sister, Helen Brothers of Raleigh, NC, two sons, Laurence W. Boon, Jr. and his wife Dottie of Jacksonville, FL and David Y. Boon and his wife June of Fort Collins, CO and his two granddaughters Denali N. Boon and Logan H. Boon both of Fort Collins, CO. He was a loyal, faithful and loving husband to Rachel Creech Boon and a loving father. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of HARDAGE GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME 4115 HENDRICKS AVE. at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, July 28, 2001. Reverend Richard Caldwell, Associate pastor of Lakewood Presbyterian Church will preside. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Boons name may be made to Hubbard House.
