Marie Mildred Karlin, 91, Hays, died Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Hays Good Samaritan Center. She was born November 10, 1921, to Jerome and Clara (Degenhardt) Hartman and was a 1939 graduate of Girls Catholic High School.

Marie married Irvin Karlin on February 22, 1944. She and Irv celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary two months before Irv's death in April 2009.

She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, a lifetime member of Daughters of Isabella, and a member of the Hays VFW Auxiliary. Marie and husband Irv were recipients of the Thomas More Prep-Marian Outstanding Alumni Award in 2002.

Marie provided her family with a model of courage and strong faith, and especially enjoyed spending endless, loving hours with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters; Judy Haas and husband Mike, Hays; Patty Freed and husband Jon, Centennial, Colorado; Mary Beth Karlin and partner Mike McKinnon, Novato, California and Cindy Washburn and husband Mark, Hays, and a son Terry Karlin and wife Kelli, Hays. Marie also leaves behind her adoring and loving grandchildren Lisa Marie (Haas) Flynn and husband John; Eric Freed and wife Kari; Cassandra Tregellas; Kaycee (Karlin) Dechant; Dustin Washburn and wife Emily; Ross Karlin and Aubree Marie Karlin, and great grandchildren Noah, Hannah, and Ava Marie Flynn; Tessa Marie Washburn, and step-great-grandson Nick Flynn.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Leona Beilman and Lucille Newman.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine St., Hays, KS.

A combined Daughters of Isabella and Hays VFW Auxiliary rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a vigil at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Hays Good Samaritan Center, Hospice of Hays Medical Center, or the Thomas More Prep-Marian Alumni Association.
