(description and history)
Derralossary Churchyard is one of the most historic sites in county Wicklow. The historic graveyard is located on the grounds of what once was the Church of Ireland parish of Derralossary. Derralossary, or Doire Lasrach, is an ancient site of worship. The COI closed the parish in 1968 and in the 1980's the church interior and roof were removed, leaving the ruins which now stand.
The graveyard historically has been non-denominational, both Anglicans and Roman Catholics being buried there. Burials are ongoing, the graveyard is still in use. In it's grounds are buried patriots, paupers, priests and ordinary parishoners as well as many 'ar a dtugtar ach amháin le Dia' (‘known only to God').
Derralossary Churchyard is nationally famous as the burial place of the illustrious Childers and Barton families of Glendalough House, both of which played such important roles in 20th century Irish history.
