I decided to start volunteering for F-A-G after I retired. I do most of my work at Rookwood Cemetery, Catholic & General areas. I live around 10 minutes from Rookwood, so it's easy to get to.

I do tend to upload one or two photos straight after taking the graveside photo and will then, only after I get home, will add more photos, and also any other person or persons that may be buried with them will also be uploaded then. It might take me a couple of hours or so later, but it will get done. Also when home, I enter a text with a plot location on the photo if there's no physical external grave or headstone so you can get a perspective of the resting place. Sometimes not everyone is inscribed on a headstone, if I can find others buried there, I will add a text on the photo or you can check if I've added a caption under the photo with the information.

To help me locate your requests, I use the Rookwood Catholic deceased search at: https://catholiccemeteries.com.au/deceased-search/ and Rookwood General deceased search at: https://www.rookwoodcemetery.com.au/deceased-search-engine

There are a few areas in Rookwood that have now closed and not passable with very few visible graves and impossible to determine plot locations. Also some are closed due to Heritage reasons. Area photos only will be uploaded. Some areas that may not be officially closed but due to no maintenance in those sections, the grass is quite high so for safety reasons no one enters and will take photos around the perimeter only.

I have also added memorials, so if I've added your family member or friends of the family or someone you know, I am happy to transfer the management to you, no problem, just use the proper channels in F-A-G to make the request.

I tend to go first thing in the mornings, especially in the summer, over 3 to 4 days per week for a couple of hours before the heat of the day. In the colder months I will start a bit later as the heavy dew makes it a bit slippery in parts, so I wait till the sun has started to warm up the place. On the odd occasion due to appointments or family life I may go in the afternoons.

Generally, I do say a prayer before I start walking around for all those I find during the course of the day and I also place a "Rose" on the website after I submit their photo. I choose the Rose as it is a symbol of Love and that someone has thought of them, not just me, but their descendants who have submitted the request.
