Bio
I was born in Derby, Connecticut, and the historical atmosphere of the area probably influenced my interests. My first memories of "playgrounds" were riding the civil war artillery pieces as if they were horses at a monument in the Derby Green.
Now that I'm more mature I stopped doing that (my legs drag on the ground now, anyway) but I am still interested in the numerous links to the past that exist in this area.
I attended local schools, and as soon as I was old enough, worked for a year for a local lumber yard, and witnessed the restoration of many of the local older homes in the late 50's and early 60's. Unfortunately, I also witnessed the demolition of many more to make way for expansion.
At 18, I joined the military, and it should come as no surprise that I chose the one with the most historic aura; The U. S. Marine Corps, which celebrated it's 240th birthday on 10 November 2015; Happy Birthday and Semper Fi!
Now that I'm in my early seventies, I'm lucky enough (in some ways) to have the time to look through these old burying grounds, and help distant members of these people's family find out where they rest.
