Mountain man - one of the first to be interred in the Fort Hill Cemetery (aka Los Angeles City Cemetery)

His burial invitation read:

The Friends and Acquaintenances of Andrew Whitley Sublette, deceased, are invited to attend the funeral services at 10 o'clock, A.M., tomorrow at the El Dorado.

More Details Gathered About Relatives Near This City

Further details have been gathered regarding the Sublette estate, mention of which was made in The Times a few days ago. A St. Louis dispatch recently reported that suit had been brought to get possession of property claimed by heirs of the estate.Mrs. W. E. Ward of this city is a daughter of Mary Sublette O'Neill, who was a sister of Andrew Sublette, who lived near this city about forty years ago.Andrew Sublette was killed by bears in Santa Monica Canyon in 1854 or 1855. His faithful dog was found lying near the body and when the remains were interred in Fort Hill Cemetery the dog could not be coaxed away from the grave.

The Sublettes are said to have done an extensive trapping and fur-trading business in the early day on the plains.
