CANASTOTA >> Rose M. Argentine, 101, formerly of 110 Howard St., Canastota, passed away on Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, at Crouse Community Center, Morrisville, following a lengthy illness.
She was born on Oct. 20, 1914, in New York City, the daughter of Concetta and Philomena (Turissi) Vecchio.
Rose lived in and maintained her own home in Canastota until she was 100 years of age.
She was a homemaker, enjoying crocheting, cooking, maintaining her home and spending time with her family.
She was a member of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota, and the Altar Rosary Society.
Rose married V. James Argentine on Feb. 8, 1941, in Canastota. Jim died on July 20, 1989.
Surviving are: two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Janice Argentine of Venice, Fla., Ronald and Renee Argentine of Canastota; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and John A. Patane of Canastota; eight grandchildren, Mark Argentine, Suzanne Olds, Shawn Patane, Jocelyn Gavitt, Brett Patane, Brad Argentine, Eric Argentine and Robert Argentine; 11 great-grandchildren. Rose was predeceased by a sister, Ida Milazzo; six stepsisters, Ida Guifre, Angeline Tornabene, Josephine Dilettoso, Nancy "Susie" Strano, Mary Stagnitta, and Rose McPherson; and a stepbrother, Frank Leonardi.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of the Crouse Community Center, Morrisville for the exceptional care and compassion that they shared with Rose and her family throughout Rose's stay -- they became like family.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Agatha's Church, 329 N. Peterboro St., Canastota, where a funeral Mass will be held. The Rev. Stephen P. Wirkes will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agatha's Cemetery, Canastota. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Aug. 12, from 4-7 p.m. at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James St., Canastota. In her memory, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Greater Lenox Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 382, Canastota, N.Y. 13032 or St. Agatha's Church, Bereavement Ministry, 329 N. Peterboro St., Canastota, N.Y. 13032, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
