Bartholomew Bonk (or Bak)arrived in Quebec, Canada from Hamburg, Germany on 6/1/1868 on board the ship Gutenberg. The ship set sail from Hamburg on 4/1/1868. He was accompanied by his two brothers, Franz and Michael.Place of origin appears to be Izabela (Prussia, now Poland).. After living in Michigan where his son John was born on Feb 17, (years range from 1873 to 1875 depending upon source) Bart and brother Francis settled in the DuBois, Washington Co area of Illinois where they farmed. Bart was married to Johanna Musial (year unknown) and was widowed in July 1882. Johanna gave birth to John (Feb 14, 1873-1875 in Michigan),Joseph (March 14, 1876), twin girls Eva and Telka (Thecla) on 9/20/1877, Pelagia (Pauline) on Dec 15, 1878) and Francis (1882-feb 12, 1954).
After Johanna's death on July 29,1882, Bart married Maria Grott Fiegel of Chester,Illinois
on 11/30/1882 at St Mary's Catholic Church in
Chester but the marriage was later annulled when Maria refused to move to Radom. The marriage certificate found on Maria Fiegel's page lists his place of birth as Posen, Prussia. He then married again, to Francisca Tomczak on 9/15/1887 at St Ann's Church in Nashville IL, to whom he remained married until his death in 1910. Bart is buried in Our Lady of Perpetual Help cemetery and first wife, Johanna, is buried in St Michaels cemetery in Radom but a search in 2012 failed to locate a tombstone for her and church secretary had no records dating to the 1880s.

Izabela is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Mrocza, within Naklo County, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship,
in North Central Poland.
