He had retired from Mountain Bell, now Qwest. Roy was born on October 25, 1921 in Groton, South Dakota to the late Karl and Amelia (Olson) Haug. He was a 1939 graduate of Groton High School. He served six years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Flusser and the USS Whitney. As a longtime manager with Mountain Bell, Roy was instrumental in establishing the NORAD communications project at Cheyenne Mountain.
