J. H. WALKER'S BURIAL FRIDAY
Funeral Services Will Be Held in the Garden Court Apartments.
Accompanied by Mrs. Margaret Walker, widow, and Miss Elizabeth Walker, daughter, the body of J. Harrington Walker, who died suddenly in the Biltmore hotel, New York, early Wednesday morning will be brought to Detroit Thursday morning.
Mr. Walker was the last of the four sons of Hiram Walker, founder of Walkerville, Ont. He was born in Walkerville September 14, 1859. When he was about nine years old, the family moved to Detroit and Mr. Walker had lived here since.
Was Twice Married.
Mr. Walker was twice married. Harrington E. Walker and Hiram H. Walker, of Detroit, were sons of the first union. Miss Margaret Talman, of Detroit, became Mr. Walker's second wife. F. Caldwell Walker and Mrs. S. R. Small, both of Detroit, and Miss Elizabeth, who has been attending an eastern boarding school, were born of this marriage. All are living. Mrs. Theodore Buhl, of Detroit, eldest member of the family, is Mr. Walker's sister.
About 1880, Mr. Walker became associated with his three older brothers in the distillery business, founded by Hiram Walker, Sr., in 1858. The brothers were Willis, of Detroit, who died 30 years ago; E. C. Walker, of Walkerville, who died five years ago, and Frank Walker, of Detroit, whose death occurred two years later.
The Walkers have a summer home in Magnolia, Mass., where the family has gone each season for several years. After leaving there in October, Mr. Walker paid his last visit, a brief one, to Detroit. Shortly afterward, ill health that had handicapped him since boyhood, required him to undergo special treatment in New York, where he and Mrs. Walker lived at the Biltmore. Death was due to heart disease, induced by acute indigestion, physicians say.
Funeral From Apartments.
The family home in Detroit was in Garden Court apartments, 870 East Jefferson avenue, built and owned by Mr. Walker. Funeral services will be held there at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. William _. Maxon, D. D., pastor of Christ Episcopal church, will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.
