Born May 25, 1851, in Detroit, Mich.
Died December 25, 1925, near Freewater, Ore.

Father, DeWitt Clinton Holbrook, a lawyer in Detroit; son of Benajah and Judith (Badger) Holbrook; ancestors came from England to America in 1622.

Mother, Mary Ann (May) Holbrook; daughter of Thomas Parsons May, of London, England, who later settled in Plymouth, Mich.

Detroit High School Member Class Barge Crew in 1873, Class Supper Committee Senior year, Kappa Sigma Epsilon, Delta Beta Xi, and Delta Kappa Epsilon. Studied law in his father's office for six months after graduating from Yale; went to Fort Benton, Mont., in 1875 and was engaged in stock farming and quartz mining until 1888, during which time he was also occupied in sheep raising in Walla Walla, Wash., for a time; toll collector on Wagon Bridge at Great Falls, Mont, 1889-1893, and inspector of weights and measures in the same place 1893-1905; since 1906 had lived at Freewater, Ore , where he was engaged in fruit growing; charter member University Club of Great Falls and member of Episcopal church at Great Falls and Milton, Ore.

Married October 30, 1883, Walla Walla County, Wash., Mary J., daughter of Alfred Craig and Helen (Merntt) Wellman. Children: Wellman, Helen Merntt (Mrs Hugh F Sheehy), Mary Louise (Mrs. Corwin Estee Waldron), and DeWitt Clinton, Jr. (B.S. Oregon Agricultural College 1924).

Death due to influenza, after an illness of over forty years resulting from a paralytic stroke. Buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Walla Walla. Survived by wife, children, ten grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. John Hazen White, of Syracuse, Ind.
