NB: Her baptismal record from Coassolo Torinese, in Italian, has her d.o.b. listed as Oct 20, 1869; but her death certificate and grave marker (see photos) have Oct 20, 1870 (see photos). I originally put her d.o.b. from her death certificate of 1870, but just changed it to 1869 given this new information, which obviously is the contemporaneous and correct date. The 1900 Census also lists her d.o.b. as "Oct 1869".

Her father was Stefano ("Stephen") Marietta from Italy (likely Coassolo Torinese, Provincia di Torino, Piemonte) and her mother was Anna Marietta (maiden name was also Marietta). Both born in Coassolo. This is confirmed by her death certificate which lists their names and says they were born in "Italy". They never emigrated and are buried in Italy - again, likely in the cemetery in Coassolo Torinese, Piemonte, where the family lived before emigrating to the US.

Her father and her husband's father were BROTHERS - so they were 1st cousins. From my notes, as I also mentioned above, her mother ALSO had the maiden name Marietta! So, let's just say, the gene pool was pretty narrow! This interbreeding probably contributed to fact that one of their children, Stephen Marietta, was sent to the Indiana State Home for the Feeble Minded in Fort Wayne, IN. He was listed there as an "idiot" and died of TB at age 16. You can see from the family photo he is in of the children (on 2nd page of photos) that he doesn't look like their other children, and appears to have Down's Syndrome features.

05/06/23 - I have just posted her death certificate in the photos. It lists her parents and husband as noted above. It does contain an error however: it lists her place of burial as "Diamond Cem.". There is no "Diamond Cemetery," however there is a Diamond in eastern Parke County, whereas Carbon, where St. Mary's Cemetery is located is in NE Clay County, the county adjoining Parke Co. Diamond is about 4 miles East of Carbon. She is definitely buried in St. Mary's in Carbon.
